2024 Update in Refractive Surgery - What You Need to Know
Dr. Raymond Stein, MD, FRCSC
Advancements in technology and techniques are continuously shaping the field of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. As a result, more patients are seeking alternatives to spectacles or contact lenses. Clinicians must stay up-to-date with the latest options available for vision correction. This lecture aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the exciting progress being made in this area of clinical advancements and research.

Optimizing Results with Laser Vision Correction
Dr. Rebecca Stein, MD, FRCSC
LASIK and PRK are well established procedures for the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The clinical goal is to continue to advance the technology and techniques to improve outcomes. Ophthalmologists, optometrists and allied-health personnel involved in patient counselling need to stay current with the latest information on patient selection to continue to achieve the best outcomes. This course covers important guidelines and clinical pearls for laser vision correction based on scientific literature and 30 years of clinical experience.

Clareon Panoptix and Clareon Panoptix Toric
Dr. John Berdahl, MD
Multifocal implants can provide the full range of vision, including distance, intermediate and near. Patient satisfaction has been reported to be very high. There is a risk of halos and glare, but these symptoms tend to decrease over time secondary to neuroadaptation. This presentation will review the optics of the advanced multifocal implants and patient selection.

The PC IOL Update
Dr. Sondra Black, OD, FAAO
The optics of premium intraocular lenses has become more and more complex. Ideally the conversation begins with the OD before the patient begins the surgical process. This course is designed to help you navigate through these options and be able to have discussions with your patients before they begin the surgical journey. We will discuss the various IOL categories on the market, how these are achieved and what they mean to the patient. We will navigate through patient expectations and provide you with the information needed to help patients make the appropriate decision for themselves. We will also review the latest advancements in the extended depth of focus lenses and the technology behind the lens.
Non-COPE | .5 Hour
The Light Adjustable Lens: A Paradigm Shift in Refractive Cataract and Lens Exchange Surgery
Dr. David Black, OD
This course introduces the new technology of the Light Adjustable Lens, the first IOL implant that allows non-surgical modification/customization of the refractive power of the implant post-operatively while in the patient’s eye. The course will detail how the technology works, patient selection considerations, post-operative process/visits and case examples.

Macula: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Interpretation and Management of the Pre-Op and Post-Op Refractive Surgery Patient
Dr. Fatimah Gilani, MD, FRCSC
This lecture is designed for optometrists aiming to deepen their understanding of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of the macula. The focus will be on the interpretation and management of patients undergoing refractive surgery, covering both pre-operative and post-operative considerations.

Corneal Laser for Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Other Forms ofCentral Vision Loss - Over 5 Years of Outcomes
Dr Raymond Stein, MD, FRCSC
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision impairment globally. The management of dry AMD, and especially geographic atrophy and late-stage AMD, has proven to be more challenging. This course will highlight the safety and efficacy of corneal photovitrification (CPV), a new corneal laser procedure that offers significant vision improvement in patients with late stage dry age-related macular degeneration.

Bochner Grand Rounds
Dr. Mark Eltis, OD, FAAO, Dipl. ABO; Dr. Fatimah Gilani, MD, FRCSC; Dr. Shalu Pal, OD, FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA, FIAOMC; Dr. Kerry Salsberg, OD; Dr. Raymond Stein, MD, FRCSC; Dr. Rebecca Stein, MD, FRCSC and Dr. Nancy Tucker, MD, FRCSC
This grand rounds course will consist of a series of ophthalmic cases in which important clinical decisions need to be made. Cases include corneal topographic images, a hyperopic refractive surprise after cataract surgery with previous radial keratotomy and a YAG capsulotomy, the best implant choice in a patient with age-related macular degeneration, implant choices in a patient who had prior LASIK, an extreme myopia with a desire for refractive surgery and management of a dry eye in a laser vision correction patient in terms of both pre-op and post-op treatments.
