In this lecture, optometrists will learn practical tips on how to handle this difficult population. New tests will be discussed, along with how to properly document their exam. A review of common symptoms, where injuries can affect vision, and frequent diagnoses will be discussed. This lecture will finish off with how to build and surround yourself with a team to co-manage TBI patients.

Neuro-Ophthalmic Abnormalities in TBI

This course will provide optometrists with a comprehensive understanding of neuro-ophthalmic abnormalities in traumatic brain injury (TBI). It will focus on the role of eye movement disorders, such as convergence insufficiency, binocular synchronization deficits and smooth pursuit abnormalities.Additionally, it will highlight the need for objective measurement tools, emphasizing the limitations of standard clinical examinations and introducing devices as ideal tools to aid in evaluating ocular performance. The course will also discuss cognitive-ocular assessments and their role in TBI diagnosis and management.
