Thomas Aller

Dr. Thomas Aller graduated from UC Berkeley School of Optometry and for over 30 years, he has been researching clinical methods for the control of myopia progression. After receiving the world’s earliest patent for a method of myopia control, he began collaborating with the Brien Holden Vision Institute on their myopia program and shares multiple patents with them. Dr. Aller is currently conducting clinical trials on a novel myopia control lens design and his anti-hyperopia multifocal lens design. In 2016 he launched Myappia, a myopia progression app, and has consulted with Haag-Streit on their new optical biometer for myopia. Dr. Aller is a clinical advisor to myopiacare.com and was the editor of managemyopia.org. Dr. Aller is a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley and has served as an adjunct Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He also serves as a consultant and advisor to several companies working on myopia control contacts, spectacles, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Dr. Aller has served on Essilor’s Myopia Matters myopia taskforce, was a participating member in the International Myopia Institute’s myopia white papers project, is on the advisory board for All About Vision and serves on the Zeiss myopia advisory board. Dr. Aller is a fellow of the British Contact Lens Association and an associate member of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists. He is the 2018 recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Global Specialty Lens Symposium and the 2019 recipient of the Garland Clay Award from the American Academy of Optometry (this paper was recently named the 13th most influential paper in OVS for the last 100 years).
