Dr. Keon Nia graduated from University and Medical School at the University of Toronto amongst the top of his class and was the recipient of numerous scholarships. He held honour standings throughout all four medical years. He then specialized and completed residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto. During residency, he made an important contribution to the field of low vision and published his findings in the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. As a senior resident, Dr. Nia taught eye surgery to junior residents training to become ophthalmologists. Dr. Nia is certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He currently has hospital privileges at the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare Center where he performs cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange and other ophthalmic laser procedures.� Dr. Nia has performed over 25,000 ocular procedures and has experience and expertise using the latest and most advanced excimer laser platforms, including the VISX Star S4, Bausch & Lomb Z100 and Allegretto WaveLight. He is also certified for the Femtosecond IntraLase All-Laser LASIK procedure and has completed training for the keratoconus treatment Corneal Collage Cross-Linking plus laser.� He completed his training in refractive surgery at LASIK MD with some of the top surgeons in North America and has worked at laser eye surgery centers in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon. In 2008, Dr. Nia had advanced custom wavefront surgery on both eyes at LASIK MD. Dr. Nia has written extensively on ophthalmological and otolaryngological matters. He was the recipient of the University of Toronto faculty of medicine research scholarship and has presented research papers at meetings of the Canadian Ophthalmology Society and the University of Toronto's Ophthalmology Research Day.
