As a Toronto native, Dr. Amar Sayani earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. He earned a Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in pediatrics and vision therapy/rehabilitation at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He has a Master of Science Degree in psychology from Nova Southeastern University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Sayani has practiced optometry working jointly with ophthalmologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and vision therapists prior to joining faculty. He is currently an assistant professor of optometry and director of the Sports Vision and Concussion Clinic. He is the team optometrist for an NCAA collegiate program. This role consists of working directly with over 450 collegiate athletes and their respective coaches and athletic trainers. Sports which he provides his expertise to include basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, softball, tennis, hockey, lacrosse, boxing, mixed martial arts and pickleball, amongst others. He is also on the vision care team for a couple professional teams including an MLB team for the past 5 years. He works directly with other optometrists, sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and athletic trainers. Additionally, he conducts inter-disciplinary research working with athletes of all ages. He has written book chapters and lectures to fellow optometrists and other health care professionals on vision performance for pre-school and school-aged children and sports performance enhancement for those of all ages. Moreover, he serves countless youth athletes working on sporting and academic needs by minimizing visual barriers and is passionate about using his expertise in training vision, mind and body to help athletes of all ages navigate both sports, academics and overall human performance.
