AI in Focus: Myths, Realities and Practical Uses in Eye Care
Kyle Shechtman, BA
This interactive and practical session is designed to help eye care leaders evaluate artificial intelligence without hype or fear. This presentation begins by clarifying what generative AI, image analysis and AI agents actually do, then explores where these tools may support patient access, documentation, communication, scheduling, referrals and administrative work. Through realistic examples, attendees will practice evaluating vendor claims, identifying unsupported content, asking about data flows and business associate agreements, designing safe human handoffs and measuring net time returned after review and corrections. The session concludes with a practical framework for selecting one bounded workflow, defining ownership and permissions, testing failures, piloting with human review and expanding only after the practice can verify dependable outcomes.
