PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
Diabetes: New Testing and Treatment for Retinopathy
Dr. Nate Lighthizer, OD, FAAO
This course will provide attendees with an update and thorough understanding of the flash flicker electroretinogram, proper indications and protocols and how to interpret results. We will explore functional testing (ERG) and newer OCT testing (OCT-A), which helps in the evaluation of diabetic patients. Literature on supplementation of diabetic retinopathy patients will also be discussed.
COPE ID 94281-TD | 2 Hours
Complex Care in Retinal Disease
Dr. Mary Beth Yackey, OD
This course will review the optometrist’s role and highlight cases in a busy retina subspecialty medical practice. Cases discussed will include retinal detachment, exudative age-related macular degeneration, macular degeneration masquerader due to chemo toxicity, central retinal artery occlusion and syphilis/HIV in the posterior segment. During each case, treatment and referral guidelines will be discussed allowing the eye doctor to feel more comfortable when confronted with retinal pathology when in their chair.

Imaging Techniques and Emerging Therapies for Geographic Atrophy
Dr. Carolyn Majcher, OD, FAAO, FAAO
Optometric physicians often serve as the primary point of detection of geographic atrophy (GA), which is the defining lesion of atrophic AMD.Multimodal imaging is essential to detect, monitor and quantify GA lesions. This course will explore early high-risk OCT biomarkers that predict or predispose to future GA development, as well as OCT and fundus autofluorescence features that predict expansion. New complement inhibitor therapies will be introduced.

The Myopic Retina
Dr. Jessica Haynes, OD, FAAO, Dipl. ABO, FORS
The myopic retina is known to have increased axial length, which results in increased risk of a variety of retinal pathology. Complications such as macular atrophy, choroidal neovascularization, vitreomacular interface disease and retinal detachment are more common in those with higher levels of myopia. This lecture will present retinal complications associated with myopia and describe treatment for these conditions.
COPE ID 97043-TD | 1 Hour
AMD: Hope on the Horizon
Dr. Julie Rodman, OD, MSc, FAAO, FORS
This course will provide an overview of age-related macular degeneration including epidemiology, pathophysiology and risk factors. A detailed analysis of the various stages of AMD will be introduced and illustrated via case examples. The advanced stages of the disease will be emphasized high-lighting the use of multimodal imaging including OCT, fundus autofluorescence, colour fundus photography and near-infrared imaging. New treatment and management options for geographic atrophy will also be discussed.
